Welcome to "The Shadow of the Bear" movie blog!

We are an independant young adult-run production based in the U.S. Midwest. The film has been in pre-production since summer 2008, and wrapped up filming on August 26th, 2010.

We premiered the project on June 23rd, 2011 at the St. Anthony Main Theater in Minneapolis, MN to a delighted audience of over 100 viewers.

SOTB Premiere Weekend Announced!

We have our weekend nailed down, folks!

The Official Premiere of "The Shadow of the Bear: The Movie" will be taking place on the weekend of June 23rd-26th, 2011 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

We do not have our exact evening decided upon yet (and probably won't until we hit February or March), but hopefully knowing the weekend will enable as many of you as possible to work out your calendars to make it to the event!

It is going to be a fabulous evening - a formal affair with props and costumes from the movie on display, a chance to meet the cast and crew (and Regina Doman!), and a program including a question and answer session with the audience.

And of course, the movie itself.

Tickets will go on sale sometime late winter, but they'll be very reasonably priced - certainly under $10.00 apiece. (I'd love to be able to offer them under $5, but at this point I can't promise since I don't know how much the space will cost to rent out. Pray for us that we'll find a good theater with digital projectors, reasonable rates and an accommodating manager in the western suburbs of the Twin Cities!)

There's another reason you should make it out to Minnesota that weekend! This year the annual gathering of Regina Doman's fans (lovingly dubbed "ReginaCon") will be taking place in our lovely state! Regina and her husband Andrew will be flying out to join the festivities and we'll have a whole host of fun activities like a Fairy Tale Novel Swing Dancing Party, a Murder Mystery, writing workshops with Regina, filmmaking workshops with me, and more! It's also going to be incredibly cheap for the quality of what we're offering - just about $50 per person to cover food, Regina's transportation, and space rentals (although if you elect to stay at a hotel instead of camping out like the rest of us, you'll probably be spending more). We're also discussing family rates for those coming out en masse (which is a ton of fun as well!), but I can't give any more details on that at present. Also, if you come to ReginaCon, you WILL get a significantly reduced ticket price for the SOTB Premiere!

And yes... I know what a bunch of you are about to ask. "What if I can't make it to Minnesota? How can I see the film?"

There will be DVDs for sale in the beginning of July and I'm hoping to work out a way to bring large screen showings to other places in the US. More about that coming soon!

If you have any more questions about any of this, please e-mail me at theshadowofthebear@ymail.com

My Peter Pan weekend. :( Not that there was any hope of me being able to come anyways. :P Wish I could be there, but I will definitely be buying a DVD!

Awesome! That will be right before I'm going to college, but hopefully I'll be able to make it out! Really excited!

$10 is a really reasonable price. I was expecting more, actually. Absolutely no problem there. :) Can't wait!

Just for the sake of clarification: Will Reginacon be the same weekend?

Kristin Martin said...

So, are Reginacon and the premiere the same weekend?

Elizabeth Amy Hajek said...

Yep, absolutely! Same weekend.

I noticed you mentioned "Fairy Tale Novel Swing Dancing Party". What if we don't know how to swing dance? I suppose we should learn, right?

How 'bout cost for ReginaCon for those of us who live in MN? Any idea?

Elizabeth Amy Hajek said...

The only reason the cost would be different for anyone, is if they were not coming to the entire conference.

You might want to try the U of M Student Union theater as a place for the premiere. The St Paul campus is nice and they have seats for about 324 people, as well as room for two or three wheelchairs. I have only rented it for ballet recitals, but I know that they screen movies in there for students. They also have various ballrooms and conference rooms in the building that might work for the Reginacon. They have all of the prices right on their website. You can also check space availability and make a request for space online.

I know the theater - my brother's drama troupe did some plays there. However it is too far for any of the events. ReginaCon will be out in Silver Lake, and the movie premiere needs to be in the western suburbs (Maple Grove, Plymouth, Champlin, Brooklyn Park, etc)

Maybe there could be a showing somewhere near DC (Maryland/N. VA)? Lots of us would be interested. Great work!

Aww, you named it RoseRed Productions! I'm touched! I love you guys :)
I miss this already... well, not enough to go again - two years is enough! - but I am so excited for this premiere!!
The poster really does look wonderful. Can't wait for June! See you all then!

JMJ
Dear "somebody in charge" -
is there an itinerary somewhere for the REGINACON 2011 event in JUne? I need to give my parents some more details before they decide if I can go or not. Also, would it be like a really small gathering of just family and friends of the Domans, or would "out-of-staters" from the Rocky Mountains be welcome, too?
I love this blog! I can't wait to see the movie!!!
God bless you all!

All the current information we have is here! We are working on getting a theater and that will narrow down what is happening on specific nights.

Out of state guests are totally welcome! :)

the trailer looks awesome, but i can't get to minnesota...any chance you could come to michigan? could you come to michigan theaters, or some place close to there? i know about 50 ppl who would definitely come, and about 100 that would probably. please, please, please consider it!
also--$10.00 is a fine price!

Well, no promises, but I have been thinking about ways to make showings happen in other states. I'll keep you all updated as such happens, but there probably wont' be a lot more news on that front until late spring... so many things to do right now! (Like editing the film!)

I wish it could come all the way to Texas...us southern fans are excited too!!!

Soooo wished I could've come!! But now I realized that, even if I had read this blog, even if I lived in MN, even if I could find a ride, I couldn't have gone. I was in a show, and the premier was performance week! So maybe it was God's plan that I didn't discover this blog until yesterday...it saved me from what would have given me a terrible heartache: knowing about the premier and not being able to go. Thanks, God!!! :D
